Seafoam Grey 04:49
Rumor is, surf’s up on the Pacific. Could you be a little more specific? I’m about 2000 miles out! Ahhh! And if we dye our hair, pretend we’re Daphne and Fred, Where would the clues have led Instead? In the abyss I don’t exist (Chorus 1) Let’s do a toast, and then take a drink. My gut’s full of lead, so I’m gonna sink To Mariana. To jarred desires that litter the beach, If I read them all, do you think I could reach Nirvana? Topher’s got, the 1950s in his pocket, His suit conceals a bottle rocket Go on, man, rock out! Ahhhh! And if I invoke the name of the one true God Can I improve my odds Of a nod? I would not bet Your silhouette (Chorus 2) All of the kids, are out on the Cape, Try as they may, they’ll never escape That floater. And couples they kiss, ‘neath the wax of the moon If I lean in close, I’ll knock over and ruin Your grape soda Had I not seen Your submarine (chorus 1) (chorus 2)

Austin is the capital of Texas, Austin is the capital of Texas, But to you it’s something more, to you it’s something else, It’s the boy that you adore, and he keeps you on the shelf, Well, well, well, well, Alright. I heard you sailed in South Minneapolis, I heard you sailed in South Minneapolis, And you climbed to the top of the mount, and thought that you saw God, I said “no, that’s just a cloud,” but my opinions can be bought, So why, why, why not, See the light? This girl’s a manic dream, A convoluted chorale scheme, So bash me with a steel beam, Upside my head. (chorus): And I’ll still grope, because I’m a dope, With no salvation but a narcissistic hope, The great, Grain Belt, stares in from my window, Cherry and Spoon and a rotten tomato, And the streets are frozen stiff, my poor car cannot steer, It must be a God-given gift, that you’re an engineer, So please, please, please, dear, Fix this road. Well now the jig is up, Drown my dues with another cup, Perhaps this time I won’t spit up, Into a sewer grate. (Chorus) (Verse 1) Shelf, well, well, well, well, I said why, why why not try? You said cuz, cuz cuz cuz cuz I’m in love. I said fine, but maybe one time. You said please, you’re just you’re just 19, I said yeah yeah yeah yeah but, I can still get it up, You said okay, but it’s not that way! So bye Jane bye

The Flood 01:20

There’s paranoia in the streets. There stands Marie, her tears are mingling with the rain with a futile sandbag at her feet. Sprint for the badlands, sprint through the mud, our dike is never gonna stop the flood. The trees all stand resigned to watch our city drown. The sky is clementine, The water is murky brown Who said that we deserve this fate? Where’s our trial, where’s our referendum vote? The river runs without debate. Now beg forgiveness, now on one knee, the second coming of Lake Agassiz The valley is washed away. All hail the cold, cruel Red that gave the soil its clay, and now leaves the poor plain dead Pictures and photo books all pool in a dreg The war is won here now it’s North to Winnipeg Capricious cumulous my pleas were all for naught. Now my defiance lies in an empty parking lot. The trees all stand resigned to watch our city drown. The sky is clementine, the water is murky brown. If evil had a face we’d surely give it hell. I’ve lost the human race, now I’ve lost you as well. Do you believe me now? Do you believe my words? Can you hear my voice over the din of birds that flew in tandem here. That flew for miles away. That don’t have to see the world from amidst the spray. Do you believe me now? The walls are caving in. The roof is giving way. We’ve just been sealed in. Do you believe me now? Please believe me now. Do you believe me now? Please believe me.

Two nights ago, you set me up Two nights ago, I was a sappy pup But mornings come, once again And I'm still mistaking you for a friend Now forget the pretense of nighttime allegiance When I'm high I'm a fucking mess. Chorus: You're my favourite. Entertainment. When the boys come crawlin up the walls, You give them a kick to the jowls. Swift and sweet, You do it complete, No one can compare. Take my glasses, I need a light, Flickering sunrise, a compromise History's contagious and I think I'm sick Of putting up with this bullshit I'm finally stirring at half past noon I won't be OK anytime soon But I'm OK with that Chorus I can't see us for the time Being alone is terrific fright Don't you forget me, don't you forgive Living in reverse is no way to live You've got nothing to think of And less to say Why can't we continue through the day? Who do we think we are? Chorus Settle me down, I'm tired of settling

Berlin 03:38
I’ve got a song I’m gonna sing A bar So leave your paper in the Boulevard My eyes they don’t see father than They yard I don’t care I don’t care really care if it’s real It could be wrong could be wrong, it’s just how I feel Grab your gun, grab my hand, grab your keys let’s go For a ride Skies are grey skies are grey, I think we’re in for a storm Thanks I’m fine thanks I’m fine, I like it here where it’s warm And if it warm, it’s red, it’s hot, it’s a rosy scene, it’s margarine The iron curtain is a phrase they say Men in suits debate it’s here to stay Fold into my arms and fade away -pre chorus- If the Berlin Wall comes crashing down I wouldn’t bat an eye, 40 years of blood and tears And you don’t wonder why, If you think the end is around the bend I’ll hang my head in shame, But I’ll still be your bourgeoisie If you’ll be my comrade babe

about

Genetic Drift is a Minneapolis 4-piece that plays Garage-Pop / Ski-Rock influenced by surf, post-punk, garage-rock, power pop, and the Twin Cities' long lineage of ramshackle alternative rock. We are a band of childhood best friends who learned our instruments and honed our songwriting together over the last decade.

History's Contagious represents the distillation of infinite moments into the relatable confines of life. Each track is a vignette where a character faces the insurmountable inevitabilities of life on their own terms. As we see, again and again, history repeats itself, and try as they may, nobody is able to free themselves from this cycle.

Let's not be too dour, though! All 25 minutes of History's Contagious have been relentlessly polished in the bars and garages of this city where above all else, howling riffs, undeniable hooks, and an electrified beat rule all. Even though the worst of it, the good times roll!
